Creative Process

Each painting by Natalia Koromvokis begins long before the brush touches the canvas. Ideas are given space to exist quietly in thought — sometimes for weeks — until they naturally begin to take form. With a deeply intuitive and meditative approach, she creates no more than six works per year, dedicating one to two months to each piece. This deliberate pace allows for a slow unfolding of the image — a quiet story told through color, light, and texture.

Visual Language
Her artistic vision is rooted in a poetic exploration of femininity and transformation. Dreamlike and symbolic, her paintings often depict figures emerging from floral elements, light dissolving into fabric, and the boundaries between the visible and imagined gently dissolving. Each piece becomes a suspended moment — a visual meditation, rich in emotion, meaning, and a sense of timeless stillness.

Contrast & Atmosphere
A signature aspect of Koromvokis’s style is her sensitivity to contrast — both in technique and emotion. She explores the tension between softness and density, light and shadow, calm and movement. These visual oppositions bring a dynamic rhythm and a quiet intensity to each work, enriching the atmosphere and inviting deeper engagement.

Technique & Materials
Koromvokis employs a classical multilayered painting technique, combining subtle glazing (known as glacis or lassure) with expressive impasto. This method builds atmospheric depth and enhances the tactile quality of the surface. Her materials vary from work to work — some pieces are painted entirely in oil, while others utilize a mixed-media approach, layering oil over acrylic underpaintings. Each artwork is created on premium gallery-grade 3D canvas, chosen for its stability and ability to support the physicality of complex, textured layers.
